iSpring is the first to support the newest eLearning format

What is cmi5?

cmi5 is the most advanced specification for LMSs. It consolidates the best of all previously existing e-Learning formats and is superior to them in functionality.

cmi5 was developed by ADL (Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative) in 2016. Together with iSpring tools, the new spec allows you to make learning asynchronous and mobile while tracking all activities of learners, no matter where and from which device they take courses.

How cmi5 enhances your e-Learning experience

cmi5 and iSpring tools will help you go beyond the limitations of SCORM.

• You can use all capabilities of both online and offline mobile learning. Learners take a significant part of courses outside an LMS, but the SCORM spec doesn’t track non-LMS learning activities and doesn’t support online and offline mobile learning.
• cmi5 tracks any kind of learners’ activities. An instructor can track audio, video, images and documents attached by students to respond to a question, and assess essays written by learners. This allows more objective and comprehensive evaluation of student skills and general proficiency. SCORM tracks only simple activities: if students passed or failed a course and how many points they scored.
• With cmi5, the content of courses can be put on a Content Distribution Network (CDN) on several servers, so learning materials load much faster. This is especially effective for global companies with a lot of employees all over the world. SCORM content must be stored on the same server as the LMS. It complicates training of users from far away, as they need to spend extra time on loading content.
• Courses in cmi5 format can launch in the same window as the LMS. With SCORM, you have to deal with at least two pop up windows: one for the LMS and the other for the SCORM content, and these windows may be blocked by your browser.

About 13 e-Learning software vendors have announced their plans to support the new cmi5 format. However, only iSpring authoring tools already support the brand-new standard for e-Learning.
